Defiler Magnetization Recommendations

The Chaos Space Marines Defiler is a daemon engine that loves variety. The 2026 plastic kit hangs a Hades battle cannon under the torso, mounts a pair of guns on the carapace, and puts a weapon hardpoint on each arm, and every one of those mounts has an alternative build in the box. Magnetizing it means you can run the ectoplasma destructor one game and the battle cannon the next without buying or building a second model.

Below are our recommendations for magnetizing the Defiler kit, plus base magnet options and a few related Chaos Space Marines guides.

Our step-by-step Defiler magnetization instructions walk through every swap point with photos.

Defiler Kit Weapon Options

The Defiler kit gives you four swap points worth magnetizing:

  • Main gun: the belly-mounted Hades battle cannon or the ectoplasma destructor.
  • Carapace guns: a pair of excruciator cannons or a pair of magma cutters. Magnetized on ball bearings, these stay fully posable after the swap.
  • Arm hardpoints: a heavy baleflamer and a heavy missile launcher by default, and each arm can instead take a Hades lascannon, a heavy reaper autocannon, or the electroscourge (the datasheet allows one electroscourge per model).

The shearing claws are the Defiler's one fixed piece of wargear, so there is no melee swap to magnetize. Everything else from the box stays available on the table once the mounts are magnetized.

Base Magnets

The Defiler sits on a 160mm round base.

Flush-Fit

Use 2 of our 6mm x 2mm N52 neodymium disc magnets inside the base for a secure hold inside a metal-lined magnetic miniature case. If you use self-adhesive flexible magnet sheeting as your case liner, use 5 or 6 magnets per base instead.

Bases with Magnets

Our 160mm round base from the Bases with Magnets range is a replacement base with the magnet wells already molded in. The matching disc magnets come loose in the same pack; glue them into the wells with a strong glue and the basing step is done.

Peel & Stick

If you would rather not glue anything, use 4 of our 25mm Peel & Stick Inner Base Magnets spaced evenly inside the base. The adhesive backing holds them in place on its own.
