Toxicrene / Maleceptor Magnetization Guide

If there was anything scarier than 1 big brain...it's 6 of them.
Galloping across the battlefield like a Lovecraftian nightmare, the Toxicrene and Maleceptor are the perfect Tyranid answer to a question that nobody asked.

For this Guide you will need:

  • Toxicrene / Malceptor Magnetization Kit
  • Magnicator Tool
  • Superglue
  • Hobby Knife
  • Hobby Snips / Clippers
  • Flat / Broad Needle File
  • Large Pin vise (0.5mm - 8mm)
  • 2.5mm Drill Bit
  • 3mm Drill Bit
  • 5mm Drill Bit
  • 6mm Drill Bit

    Optional:
  • Insta-Set Accelerant
  • Painter's or Masking Tape

    Please Note that you will need to decide if you want to have your model in either an Attack Position or a Crouch Position based on the instruction Manual.

    Step 1: Main Body Construction
    For this step of the build, you will need to follow the instruction manual's steps 1A-1D, stopping there. Do NOT build step 1F until after magnets have been placed.

  • 1A - Within the interior of Parts 01 and 02, you will need to use your pin vise and 5mm bit to lightly drill into the center of each brain as shown below. Do not drill completely through, you will be going about 1mm deep (Use painter's tape as a depth guide).



  • 1B - Next you will need to use the BLUE end of your Magnicator tool to hold a 5 x 1mm disc magnet in place. Using your needle file, lightly score the face of each magnet then glue them into place in the newly drilled spaces.



  • 1C - Once you have the internal brain magnets in place, you will need to drill the interior of each brain covering (Parts 46 - 51). For each covering use your 2.5mm drill bit to lightly drill into the interior of each covering, just like you did with the brains. ONLY DRILL 0.5mm DEEP. Dry fit a 2.5 x .5mm disc magnet to ensure proper depth. You will want the interior surface of the coverings to be flush.


    Once you have drilled each covering, use the BLUE end of your Magnicator Tool and glue a 2.5 x .5mm disc magnet into the interior of each brain covering.


    This will allow you to attach and remove the covering when swapping between model variants.



  • 1D - Next you will need to use the BLUE end of your Magnicator Tool and position the 12 x 2mm disc magnet into position at the base of what I can only describe as this thing's...neck(?).
    Be sure to position the magnet so that it sits as flush as possible and is no higher than the top of the neckline connecting points.



    Step 2: Head Construction
    For this portion of the build, you will be constructing the 2 heads of this monstrous beast.

  • 2A - Toxicrene Head - Parts 36 & 37

    2B - Maleceptor Head - Parts 31, 32 & 33

    Once you glue these parts together, you will need to use the BLUE end of your Magnicator Tool to guide and insert one of the 10 x 5mm hemisphere magnets into the interior of the Toxicrene head, with the rounded portion sitting against the interior of the face. Glue this magnet in place within the head.



    Step 3: Chest Maleceptor Parts 34 & 35
    For the Chest you will first need to drill into the front of the main body using your 3mm bit at the 2 locations pictured below


    Next you will need to use the RED end of your Magnicator Tool to insert and glue a 3 x 3mm magnet into both drilled holes.



  • 3A - Toxicrene Chest Armor (Parts 38 & 39)
    You will need to glue these 2 parts together, once you have done this, use your 3mm bit to drill into the center interior of the chest as pictured below.


    Next you will use the BLUE end of your Magnicator Tool to insert and glue 3 x 3mm magnets in place as pictured below.





  • 3B - Maleceptor Chest Armor (Parts 34 & 35)
    Once these 2 parts are glued together, you will need to drill into the connecting side of the Maleceptor armor, using your 3mm bit. You will drill 2 locations pictured below. Do NOT drill all the way through the armor, only into the cavity.


    You will then use the BLUE end of your Magnicator Tool to insert and glue a 3 x 3mm magnet into each hole, making sure the Magnicator Tool sits flush.



    Step 4: Shoulders
    This next portion of the guide will have you drilling and magnetizing the forward most shoulder sockets from within the body of the beast.

  • 4A - You will need to drill into the first set of shoulder sockets using your 6mm bit, once you have done this you will need to trim away a bit of the plastic left behind from the drill process.



  • 4B - Once both shoulders have been drilled, you will need to use the RED end of your Magnicator Tool to glue a 10 x 3mm disc magnet into the shoulder socket from the interior as pictured below. You will repeat this for both forward most shoulder sockets.


    Step 5: Arms
    In this step of the guide, you will be clipping, drilling and magnetizing both sets of arms (Scything talons - Malceptor / Lashing tentacles - Toxicrene).

  • 5A - Maleceptor Scything Talons
    You will need to clip the plastic of the shoulder connection points on both left and right arms as pictured below.


    Once you have removed this bit, you will need to use your 6mm bit and lightly drill into the shoulder itself, creating a concave space.




    After this section has been drilled, you will need to align the polarity of a 6mm sphere magnet to the respective shoulder socket. Gently ease the sphere close to its respective socket and allow it to align.


    Once this is done, you will need to use your needle file and lightly score the outward facing side of the sphere, then glue it into the now drilled shoulder.


  • 5B - Toxicrene Lashing Tentacles
    The arms of this set are designed slightly different from the scything talons as they are meant to support the weight of having the tentacles reaching so far out from the model itself.
    You will need to test fit a few times to make sure you are happy with posing and magnetic hold.
    Just like the Scything Talons, you will need to clip off a bit of the shoulder connecting section and then proceed to use your 6mm bit to drill into the clipped shoulder. Only drill about 2mm deep.


    Just like the spheres you will carefully place the magnet into the socket, letting the internal shoulder one hold it in place, then glue the tentacle arms to the inserted magnet once you are happy with depth and posing.


    Once these magnets are in place, you can complete the rest of the model.
