Scarab Occult Terminators Magnetization Kit

Price $7.99 USD

This article explains how to magnetize the Scarab Occult Terminators model using our magnetization kit. You will be able to use the end model as any of the Sorcerer, standard Terminator, Inferno Combi-bolter, Heavy Warpflamer, Soulreaper Cannon, and Hellfyre Missile Rack options available in that box.

Please follow the normal assembly instructions that come with the plastic kit; the steps below cover only the magnetization.

To keep track of magnet polarity we use a set of Magnicator tools. We refer to a magnet's polarity as "red" or "blue," after the Magnicator end that is attracted to that magnet's surface. If you do not have those tools, use another method to track polarity, for example mark one face of a large spare magnet and reference it every time you place a magnet.

This guide will take you step by cursed step through making your unit of 5 azure and gold Terminators as versatile as possible.

This guide covers the Scarab Occult Terminators box from Games Workshop.

Magnets

The kit comes with a set of 26 magnets.

Tools For this guide you will need

  • Scarab Occult Terminators magnetization kit: every magnet and part this guide uses.
  • Thick or gel super glue, such as Maxi-Cure Plus: glues each magnet in place without running the way thin CA glue does.
  • Magnicators V2: show which face of a magnet is red or blue, so every pair attracts.
  • Needle files or sandpaper: clean up a hole or socket so the magnet sits flush.
  • Hobby knife or clippers: remove parts from the sprue and trim the areas the steps call out.
  • Drill bits, 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm: the bit sizes the steps drill with.
  • Small Hand Drill: holds bits from 1mm to 3mm and turns them by hand.
  • Large Pin Vise: holds bits from 0.5mm to 8mm and turns them by hand.
  • Drill Bit Small Metric Bundle: supplies the 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, and 3mm bits.
  • Drill Bit Medium Metric Bundle: supplies the 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm bits.
  • Insta-Set Accelerant (optional): sets the super glue quickly so each magnet stays where you placed it.

Step 1 Sorcerer

Magnets Used

Size # Where
5mm x 2mm 3 Sorcerer lower torso and both upper torsos
2mm x 2mm 3 Sorcerer left wrist and each drilled Sorcerer weapon hand

Model Parts

Part Part #
Sorcerer upper torso 81 or 82
Staff end 83/84
Parts glued to the Sorcerer's upper torso 79/80
Sorcerer lower torso 51/52
Sorcerer left wrist 79
Sorcerer weapon hands 85, 86/87

This portion of the guide will show you how to magnetize one of your Terminators so you can swap between a standard model and the unit's Scarab Occult Sorcerer.

Scarab Occult Sorcerer swap, a Terminator set up as the Sorcerer or a standard model Standard Terminator torso with Inferno Combi-bolter and Prosperine Khopesh, the swap partner for the Sorcerer

First, build the upper torso of the Sorcerer following Step 1A in the instruction manual, but do NOT glue the upper torso to the legs. You will be magnetizing the midsection. You can choose either Part 81 or Part 82 for this upper torso based on your preference.

Also select and build an upper torso from the standard Terminator options provided in the box.

Next, select which staff end you want to use (Parts 83/84). You can then glue Parts 79/80 to the Sorcerer's upper torso. Attach a standard Inferno Combi-bolter and Prosperine Khopesh pair to the standard upper torso.

Build the lower torso of the Sorcerer (Parts 51/52). Once the glue has set, use your hand vise and 5mm bit to gently drill into the center of the lower torso, about 2mm deep.

Sorcerer lower torso parts 51/52, drilled at the center with a 5mm bit about 2mm deep Sorcerer lower torso drilled about 2mm deep for a 5mm x 2mm waist magnet

Next, use your hobby clippers and knife to clear away some of the plastic at the upper torso connection points of both the Sorcerer and the selected Terminator. Then use your 5mm bit to drill both upper torsos, again only drilling about 2mm deep.

You can now swap between the two upper torsos to run either an HQ or a standard Terminator for your army.

For the next portion of this guide, use your 2mm bit to gently drill into the LEFT wrist of the Sorcerer (Part 79). Also drill the backs of the Sorcerer's weapon hands using your 2mm bit (Parts 85, 86/87).

Step 2 Heavy Weapons

Magnets Used

Size # Where
3mm x 2mm 4 The 3 weapons and the heavy weapons Terminator right shoulder

The next portion of this guide will show you how to magnetize one of your standard Terminators to swap between an Inferno Combi-bolter, Heavy Warpflamer, or Soulreaper Cannon.

Select one of your Terminators to be a heavy weapons model (at the time of writing, each unit of 5 Scarab Occult Terminators can take 1 heavy weapon).

Once you have selected your model, use your 3mm bit to drill the right shoulder / torso connection point.

You can build the rest of your Terminators as instructed by the guide, but do NOT attach the shoulder pads. You are only given 10 and will need to keep 3 loose for magnetizing.

Step 3 Missile Rack

Magnets Used

Size # Where
2mm x 1mm 4 Hellfyre Missile Rack underside and the top of the selected Terminator

Model Parts

Part Part #
Hellfyre Missile Rack 69/70

This step will show you how to magnetize the Hellfyre Missile Rack for one of your Scarab Occult Terminators.

First, select the Terminator that will carry the missile rack. Build the missile rack as instructed in the manual (Parts 69/70). Then gently drill two holes into the underside of the missile rack as shown below.

Step 4 Shoulder Pads

Magnets Used

Size # Where
3mm x 1mm 10 3 right shoulder arms, Sorcerer and standard shoulders, 3 drilled pads

For the final step of this guide, you will be magnetizing the shoulder pads for the heavy weapons terminator and your Sorcerer. Since the box only includes 5 pairs of shoulder pads for the unit, you will need to magnetize a few to make them fully swappable.

First you will need to pick 2 pairs of shoulder pads (each pad has a matching mate). You will need to use your 3mm bit to lightly drill into the center interior of 3 of the 4 pads (2 for the sorcerer and 1 for your heavy weapons). ONLY drill about 1mm deep.

Shoulder pad interior drilled about 1mm deep with a 3mm bit for a 3mm x 1mm magnet

Next you will need to drill the 3 RIGHT shoulder arms for the Heavy weapons terminator and BOTH shoulders for the Sorcerer / standard terminator pair. Drill in the spot pictured below, 1mm deep.

Heavy weapons right shoulder arms and the Sorcerer pair shoulders, drilled 1mm deep Shoulder arms drilled 1mm deep for the heavy weapons pads and the Sorcerer pads

Once you have drilled the shoulders, you will use the RED end of your Magnicator Tool to glue and insert a 3mm x 1mm disc magnet into the now drilled shoulders, making sure the Magnicator Tool sits flush.

3mm x 1mm magnet glued into a drilled shoulder with the red end of the Magnicator Tool Drilled shoulder magnet, with the Magnicator Tool sitting flush on the 3mm x 1mm magnet

You will then use the BLUE end of your Magnicator Tool to orient polarity and then use the flat end of your 5mm bit to glue and insert a 3mm x 1mm disc magnet. Do this for BOTH the left and right shoulder pads you have drilled. You will want the flat end of the drill bit to sit as flush as possible.
