This article explains how to magnetize the Gyrfalcon Jetbike Sodality model using our magnetization kit. You will be able to use the end model as any of the Twin Corvae Las-Pulser and Arachnus Volley Cannon weapon options available in that box.

Please follow the normal assembly instructions that come with the plastic kit; the steps below cover only the magnetization.

To keep track of magnet polarity we use a set of Magnicator tools. We refer to a magnet's polarity as "red" or "blue," after the Magnicator end that is attracted to that magnet's surface. If you do not have those tools, use another method to track polarity, for example mark one face of a large spare magnet and reference it every time you place a magnet.

This guide will cover the magnetization process for the 4 models that GW currently supplies in the Custodes Support Battle Group Box. Just repeat the steps in this guide for each bike.

The guide calls each Gyrfalcon Jetbike a bike. Once magnetized, each bike can swap between the Twin Corvae Las-Pulser and the Arachnus Volley Cannon, the rider's Power Lance arm can be adjusted or removed for travel, and an optional magnet lets the bike sit on a magnetic flight stand.

The kit comes with a set of 24 magnets and 9 flight stand components.

Tools For this guide you will need

  • Gyrfalcon Jetbike Sodality magnetization kit: every magnet and part this guide uses.
  • Thick or gel super glue, such as Maxi-Cure Plus: glues each magnet in place without running the way thin CA glue does.
  • Magnicators V2: show which face of a magnet is red or blue, so every pair attracts.
  • Needle files or sandpaper: clean up a hole or socket so the magnet sits flush.
  • Hobby knife or clippers: remove parts from the sprue and trim the areas the steps call out.
  • Drill bits, 3mm, 4mm, and 6mm: the bit sizes the steps drill with.
  • Small Hand Drill: holds bits from 1mm to 3mm and turns them by hand.
  • Large Pin Vise: holds bits from 0.5mm to 8mm and turns them by hand.
  • Drill Bit Small Metric Bundle: supplies the 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, and 3mm bits.
  • Drill Bit Medium Metric Bundle: supplies the 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm bits.
  • Drill stop collar or tape: works as a depth gauge so you drill only about 2mm deep.

Step 1 Main Weapon Mount

When building the Gyrfalcon Jetbike, you will need to first use the RED end of your Magnicator tool to orient polarity of a 5mm x 5mm x 2mm block magnet.

You will use your needle file to lightly score the face of the block magnet, allowing for better adhesion. You will also use the tip of your hobby knife to score the back end of Part 2, as shown below.

Once both surfaces are prepared, you can use the RED end of your Magnicator tool to glue the block magnet into place as shown below.

Optional: This part is completely optional; only do this if you plan on using our magnetic flight stands that are included with this kit.

Before finishing the build of the bike frame and chassis, use the RED end of your Magnicator tool to orient polarity of the included 8mm x 2mm disc magnet, then score the face of the magnet with your needle file.

Important: skip manual step 39C.

Next you will need to attach Parts 11 / 12 to the underside of Part 3. Once those are glued in place, use your 6mm bit to drill through the spot where the peg mount would have been located on the bottom of Part 3.

You will also need to trim away some of the pipes (Parts 11 / 12) with your hobby knife, as shown below.

Next you will use the RED end of your Magnicator tool to glue the 8mm x 2mm magnet in place. You may need to apply a little bit of extra glue around the seam to fully secure the magnet in place.

Step 2 Magnetizing Bike Weapons

You can now continue with the build instructions to complete the main jetbike manifold.

You will need to first clip the flat guide rails on the Twin Corvae Las-Pulser and the Arachnus Volley Cannon to allow them to be swapped smoothly after the bike is completed.

For the main weapons of the jetbike, you will need to use your 3mm bit to drill into the rear of the weapon's connection point, using either a stop collar or tape as a depth gauge. You will only need to drill about 2mm deep as shown below.

Using the RED end of your Magnicator tool, you will insert and glue a 3mm x 2mm magnet into the connection point you have just drilled, making sure the magnet sits flush. Repeat this for each bike weapon option.

Step 3 Magnetizing the Rider

For the last portion of this guide, you will need to fully build your Custodes jetbike rider, but do NOT glue the right arm in place. You will need to choose whether you want your rider holding the Power Lance or if they are holding both handlebars.

You will need to use your 4mm bit and drill into the right shoulder / torso connection point, making sure to center your bit as much as possible, drilling only deep enough to clear the plastic.

Once you have drilled the torso, you will use your 3mm bit to drill into the shoulder on the arm itself, using the depth gauge method again, to drill 2mm.

You do not need to worry about choosing which angle you want your rider to hold their Power Lance, as once magnetized, it will be adjustable / removable for travel.

Using the BLUE end of your Magnicator tool, glue and insert a 4mm x 2mm magnet into the now drilled torso connection point, making sure the Magnicator tool sits flush.

Next you will use the RED end of your Magnicator tool to glue and insert a 3mm x 2mm magnet into the shoulder connection point on the arm, again making sure the end of the tool sits flush.
