Assault Intercessor Sergeant Magnetization Guide

While the rest of the Assault Intercessor squad charges forward in disciplined fury, the Sergeant gets options — and in Warhammer 40,000, options mean flexibility on the battlefield.

Power fist? Thunder hammer? Plasma pistol? Hand flamer? Each loadout changes how the unit performs — and how your opponent reacts. But building multiple Sergeants to swap war gear isn’t efficient… and locking yourself into one choice can feel limiting as points shift and metas evolve.

To keep track of magnet polarity, we use a set of Magnicator tools.  We may refer to the polarity of the magnets as “red” or “blue,” after which Magnicator is attracted to that magnet’s surface.

If you also have a Crusader Squad, I'd recommend checking out those instructions as well!

Magnets Needed: Sergeant Body
1pcs 3mm x 11.5mm

To drill the Sergeant’s body, there are two ways to do this. I highly recommend not having it glued before you drill the body.

The first way is: if you have already glued the body, use a 3mm drill bit and drill on both sides where the arms would normally be glued. You will meet some resistance as you go into the body. That’s because there’s a bump of material in the middle. Apply steady, controlled pressure and continue drilling to remove that internal material.

I strongly recommend alternating between drilling from the left and right shoulder sockets. This keeps your hole centered and prevents the drill from wandering off-axis. Once your drill bit can pass cleanly from one shoulder socket through to the other, you’ve created a straight channel through the torso. When everything lines up properly, you’ll have a perfectly centered magnet mount that allows either arm to swap securely without compromising the model’s pose or structure.

The second way is: without gluing the body together, use your 3mm drill bit and drill on both sides where the arms would normally be glued.

Then, using a sharp knife or a pair of snippers, clear out the plastic bump at the junction of the two halves. Dry fit the parts together, and drill out any remaining material.

After you have drilled out the 3mm hole, insert the 3mm x 11.5mm magnet. Use your Magnicator and with the red end, insert it on the Sergeant’s left side.

Magnets Needed: Sergeant Arms
12pcs 3mm x 0.5mm

Next, we’re going to make good use of our Magnicator. For all of the left arms, that is, all of the melee weapons (Power Fist, Power Weapon, Thunder Hammer, Astartes Chainsword), glue a 3mm x 0.5mm magnet onto the shoulder joint (where the arm meets the body) using the Blue end of your magnicator. For all of the right side (Heavy Bolt Pistol, Hand Flamer, Plasma Pistol), use the red end of your magnicator, repeating the same process for all the ranged weapon opt

Magnets Needed: Sergeant Shoulder Pads
4pcs 3mm x 0.5mm

For the final part of magnetizing our Sergeant, let’s magnetize the shoulder pads!

On the top of the arms where the shoulder pads normally sit, drill a 3mm hole into the arms. Use drill collars to drill only 1mm deep.

Use the red end of your Magnicator to insert the 3mm x 0.5mm magnets into each arm. This keeps it simple and makes the magnets in the shoulder pads only Blue!

Speaking of shoulder pads, glue a 3mm x 0.5mm magnet into each shoulder pad. If you have paint, you can dab some onto the arm to see where it fits naturally to the shoulder pad and glue where the paint transfers over. Double-check the polarity of your magnet is blue for the shoulder pads.

Now your Sergeant is ready for any weapon option! With your magnets seated and aligned, your Assault Intercessor Sergeant is now fully modular — ready to swap wargear as your list evolves.

Make sure to check out our other Intercessor blogs, too! We have the Heavy Intercessor and the Intercessor Squad!
