Why plasteel beats MDF

MDF army trays look fine until they get dropped, get damp, or try to fit in a transport case already packed to the lid. Plasteel is thinner, slimmer in the box, and will not delaminate at the edges after a few tournament seasons. The trays sit lower under your models, so the army still reads as being on bases - not on a slab.

Magnetic carrying - the actual point

Magnetic movement trays only work if every link in the chain holds. Your model needs a magnet, or it needs to sit on a flush-fit magnetized base. The tray needs a magnetic bottom. Your case needs a ferrous floor or a magnetic rack. Skip any one of those and you are still in glue-and-pray territory.

Our trays handle the middle link. For the bottom link - case or rack - pair with self-adhesive steel sheeting (sold separately). For the top link - base to tray - pair with our flush-fit basing magnets sized to your base.

FAQ

Q: Are these the same as the "mag trays" or "miniature trays" sold elsewhere?

A: Same idea, different build. Most third-party mag trays are MDF with a sheet of fridge-magnet rubber glued underneath. Ours are plasteel with a flexible neodymium-loaded adhesive - stronger pull, thinner profile, much less model wobble during transport.

Q: Can the adhesive magnet bottom be used on an MDF tray I already own?

A: Yes. Peel the adhesive sheet, stick it to the underside of any MDF tray, and you have converted it into a magnetic tray. The all-in-one plasteel version we sell is thinner and lasts longer, but the conversion works.

Q: Can I magnetize a whole army to one of these?

A: That is the design intent. Magnetize each model's base - 4.5x2.2mm flush-fit for 25mm and 28mm bases, 4.5x2.6mm for 32mm and up, 6x2mm for 130mm and larger ovals. Models snap to the tray and stay during transport.

Q: Do you carry MDF movement trays?

A: No. We make plasteel trays because they outperform MDF in thickness, durability, and water resistance. If you specifically want MDF, several other vendors carry it.
