Carnosaur / Troglodon Magnetization Guide (Seraphon)

Carnosaur / Troglodon Magnetization Guide (Seraphon)

The Carnosaur/Troglodon kit is a classic Seraphon dual kit. One box builds a Carnosaur (with either an Oldblood or Scar-Veteran rider) or a Troglodon (with a Skink Oracle). That's three distinct builds from one kit. Magnetizing unlocks all of them.

What to Magnetize

Location Options Magnet Size
Rider (saddle) Oldblood / Scar-Veteran / Skink Oracle 3mm x 2mm or 5mm x 2mm
Carnosaur rider weapons (wrist) Sunstone spear / Celestite war-pick / Celestite great blade 2mm x 1mm
Head Carnosaur head / Troglodon head 3mm x 2mm or 5mm x 2mm

Rider Swap: Oldblood, Scar-Veteran, or Skink Oracle

All three riders connect at the saddle on the beast's back. The Saurus riders (Oldblood and Scar-Veteran) are similar in size. The Skink Oracle is smaller but uses the same mount point.

Placement

  • Drill a hole into the saddle mount and matching holes into the underside of each rider. Use 3mm x 2mm if the saddle connection is tight and the riders fit snugly, or step up to 5mm x 2mm if there's more play in the joint.
  • Build each rider as a complete sub-assembly. The Oldblood and Scar-Veteran get magnetized weapons (see below). The Skink Oracle's staff can be glued permanently.
  • Dry fit each rider before committing. The Skink Oracle sits differently than the Saurus riders, so check that all three look natural in the saddle.

Carnosaur Rider Weapon Options

The Oldblood and Scar-Veteran carry different weapon loadouts: sunstone spear, celestite war-pick, or celestite great blade. These are hand weapons that swap at the wrist.

Placement

  • Drill a 2mm hole at the wrist joint on the weapon arm and matching holes in each weapon hand.
  • Glue a 2mm x 1mm magnet into each. Saurus hands are small -- 2x1mm is the right size for these weapon swaps.
  • These are fiddly pieces. Use tweezers to place the magnets and a polarity marker to avoid mistakes.

Head Swap: Carnosaur vs Troglodon

The Carnosaur and Troglodon have distinct heads. The Troglodon head has a crest and different jaw structure. Magnetizing the neck joint lets you swap between the two beast profiles.

Placement

  • Drill a hole into the neck socket on the body and matching holes into each head's neck peg.
  • Use 3mm x 2mm magnets if the neck joint is small, or 5mm x 2mm if there's room. The head needs to hold securely -- a drooping dinosaur head looks bad.
  • Check alignment from multiple angles. The heads have different postures, so make sure both look natural when seated.

Basing

The kit uses a 120mm oval base. Use multiple Large Thick (6mm x 2.6mm) flush-fit basing magnets for secure transport. Two to three magnets spaced along the base's length will hold this model firmly in a magnetized case.

Tools You'll Need

  • Pin vise with 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm drill bits
  • Super glue (gel formula preferred)
  • Polarity marker -- mark every magnet before gluing
  • Tweezers for placing 2mm x 1mm magnets

Summary

Three builds from one kit: Oldblood on Carnosaur, Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur, and Troglodon with Skink Oracle. Magnetize the rider at the saddle (3x2mm or 5x2mm), the head at the neck (same), and the Carnosaur rider's weapons at the wrist (2x1mm). The 120mm oval base takes multiple Large Thick flush-fit magnets for transport.
