Marvel Crisis Protocol Basing Magnets Guide

Marvel Crisis Protocol Basing Magnets Guide

Marvel Crisis Protocol models look fantastic, but they're fragile. Long capes, dynamic poses, outstretched arms -- MCP minis are begging to snap off their bases during transport. Magnetizing your bases is the single best thing you can do to protect your collection.

Why Basing Magnets Matter More in MCP

Unlike Warhammer, most MCP models don't have weapon options to swap. You build the character as designed. But transport is a real problem. MCP uses 35mm bases for standard characters, 50mm bases for larger characters, and even bigger bases for vehicles and terrain pieces. Those dynamic sculpts with extended limbs create leverage that snaps models off bases or breaks contact points when they shift in a carry case.

Magnetized bases let you stick models to a magnetic sheet or metal tray. No foam slots to squeeze models into. No pressure on those fragile contact points.

Self-Adhesive Magnets: The Easiest Option

MCP bases have a flat underside, which makes self-adhesive magnets the path of least resistance. Peel, stick, done. No drilling required.

These work on 35mm and 50mm bases equally well. For larger bases (vehicles, terrain), use two or three magnets to handle the extra weight.

Application Tips

  • Clean the base underside with isopropyl alcohol before applying. Paint and mold release reduce adhesion.
  • Press firmly and let the adhesive set for a few hours before relying on it.
  • For heavy models (Hulk, Dormammu, vehicles), stack two magnets or pair with a larger disc for extra pull.

Flush-Fit Magnets for a Cleaner Look

If you want magnets embedded in the base rather than stuck to the bottom, flush-fit basing magnets work on MCP bases too. You'll need to drill a counterbore into the base, but the result is a perfectly flat bottom with no visible magnet.

This approach is popular with tournament players who want a clean presentation and reliable transport.

Magnetizing Multi-Build Models

A few MCP characters come with alternate build options -- different heads, arm poses, or accessories. If you want to switch between builds without committing, small magnets at the joint will do the job.

2mm x 1mm magnets fit most MCP character arm and head joints. The scale is similar to 40K infantry, so the same techniques apply: drill with a pin vise, mark polarity, glue in place.

That said, multi-build magnetization in MCP is niche. Focus on basing magnets first -- that's where you get the most value.

Transport Setup

Once your bases are magnetized, you need something for them to stick to. Options:

  • Metal sheet in a toolbox -- cheap and effective. A small metal toolbox from a hardware store works perfectly for MCP's smaller rosters.
  • Magnetic sheet in a case -- line the bottom of a carry case with adhesive magnetic sheet. Models stick face-up with no foam compression.
  • Metal cookie sheets -- budget option that works surprisingly well for home storage and short trips.

Summary

MCP magnetization is mostly about transport, not weapon swaps. Self-adhesive magnets on the base are the fastest solution. Flush-fit magnets give a cleaner result if you don't mind drilling. Either way, your models travel safer and your paint jobs last longer.
