Questoris Knight Magnetization

The Questoris Knight No-Drill Magnetization Kit is everything you need to magnetize your Imperial or Chaos Questoris Knight kit and get all the options easily swapable. This kit only needs glue, clippers, and some files. Magnicators will help keep magnet polarity straight during the process. You don't need to drill or chop apart anything, we've included parts to either swap or center every magnet easily for you.

Basing Magnets

Use the Large Thins, 6mm x 2mm magnets. We use 3 of these magnets with sturdy sheet metal cases. If you are using the self-adhesive flexible magnets as a case liner you will want between 5 and 6 magnets per Questoris Knight.

Knight Base Size: 170x105mm Oval

Scenice Base Magnets

Only use these if you have a 3rd party resin flat bottomed base. If you have the normal base included with each kit do not use these.

Bases With Magnets

This is a base with magnet holes and magnets ready to go so the magnets will never come out.

Posable Kit Instructions

Posable Flight Stand Kit

This is the full kit and parts you will need to use the posable magnetic flying stands.  From left to right:  Artificial rock/magnet holder, magnet alignment tool, 2x disk magnets (red and blue indicating polarity, try using the Magnicator), one clear acrylic rod with a recess on one size, a ball bearing, and a ring magnet with a recess on one side.  You will need to supply one base and a model to magnetize.

Base and Magnet Holder

Step 1: Glue the artificial rock to the base.  Glue one disk magnet inside the artificial rock.  Please note the polarity!  In this illustration, we are using "red up" polarity.

Magnet Alignment Procedure

Step 2:  Proceed from left to right:
  • A: Insert one disk magnet into the magnet alignment tool.  Pay attention to polarity!  We are again using "red up" polarity.  Apply glue to the bottom of the acrylic rod.  (See detail picture following.)
  • B: Insert the acrylic rod into the magnet alignment tool, ensure that the recess on the rod is on top, and glue it to the magnet.
  • C: Once the glue has set, remove the acrylic rod and disk magnet from the magnet alignment tool.  You can use a pin, paper clip (shown), or other tool to help remove the pieces from the tool.  There is a hole through the center of the tool to facilitate this.
  • D: Glue the ball bearing into the recess on top of the acrylic rod.
  • E: Finished

Alignment Tool DetailStep 2 (detail):  When inserting the disk magnet into the magnet alignment tool, it will recess slightly into the base of the tool.  The point where the rod and magnet touch should not be touching the tool, so hopefully no glue will cause the tool to be glued to either piece.  You may apply some light force to bend the "fingers" of the tool to help remove the parts from the magnet alignment tool.

Model with Magnet

Step 3:  Turn your model over, and glue the ring magnet to the middle of the model, approximately under the center of gravity.  Ensure that the recess of the magnet is facing outward, away from the model.  This will allow the ball bearing to be precisely attached to the center of the magnet and model.

Posable Flight Stand Finished Detail

Final:  This is a completed flight stand magnetization kit.  You can see how the care in tracking the magnet polarity and the recesses in the ring magnet and rod has allowed the parts to come together.

You can also store the model more easily, since the base, rod, and model can be separated.

Group Shot Posable Flight Stands

Here are some examples of the poses you can do with these flight stands.  They are very dynamic.

Magnetizing Primaris Marines

Using the 3x11.5mm magnet and 3x1mm magnets you can quickly magnetize most Primaris Space Marines by drilling once straight through each shoulder without having to drill the shoulders. Nick & Jay at Eons of Battle wanted a little more strength so they drilling a little using 3x2mm magnets into each shoulder leaving them protruding.

Magnicators - Magnet Applicators

The ultimate tool for hobby enthusiasts, crafters, and engineers. The tip of each magnicator has a magnet facing the opposite direction ensuring parts are magnetized correctly every time. Perfect for 3D printing, War Hammer Miniatures and other hobby projects, these magnetization tools are a must-have for any enthusiast. These unique magnetization tools feature a specialized tip that reduces super glue adhesion.

Super Glue - All About

A variety of super glues for a variety of reasons. Here's a quick overview on what we use each of our super glues for.

Before getting to any one adhesive, we chose to carry this glue brand for a reason. It is the only one that can hold the strongest N52 Neodymium Super Magnets that we carry reliably. We could have gone with a number of different brands but this one worked better.

Maxi-Cure Plus Super Glue

This is a standard super glue with reasonable work and cure times. A little bit of gap filling goes a long way when magnetizing.

Insta-Set Accelerant

Not an adhesive, this is a spray that cures the Maxi-Cure within a few seconds.

Not compatible with Super Gold, and Insta-Cure contains some Insta-Set already.

Insta-Cure

This is a super quick cure time, it has some of the accelerant in the formula so it is a little looser but quick incredibly fast.

Super Gold

Colorless, odorless, and a little slower to cure, this CA glue is just as strong as the others but is the best for clear plastics and glass for a no-fog super glue. This is a premium glue and is a little slower to cure than the others. Not compatible with Insta-Set, it will heat up, still take a while to cure, and then fog. If you want fast acting go with the other glues we carry.

Epoxy

This is a 2-part epoxy adhesive, best for when you have big magnets in big projects. Think 18mm magnets or larger.

Super Glue Caps

These are compatible with any of the 1/2oz, 1oz, or 2oz bottles but not the 8oz or Epoxy bottles of glue, not compatible with Insta-Set.

Green Stuff

When you just need some time and a lot of material to fill a space where you want a magnet, mix up a pinch of the blue and yellow and show a magnet into it.
